Building Connections: Inspiring the Next Generation at SAIT

Earlier this month two team members, Mohammad Pranto (Instrumentation Technologist) and Matthew Noble (Jr. Instrumentation Technologist), from our Calgary South office participated in an Instrumentation and Automation Industry Night hosted annually by the IASC-SAIT*.

The event provided an opportunity to build and strengthen connections between the industry professionals and the Instrumentation Engineering Technology (IET) student body.

The following is Mohammad’s account of the event.

The students were quite engaging regardless of whether they were 1st year or 2nd year in the program. I was impressed that some of the students were aware of Allnorth’s recent acquisition of Dynamysk and were interested in what that meant for Allnorth as a whole. I explained it brought additional value to clients in the form of expanded services to the already strong brand Allnorth has built over 30 years in business.

The format of the event was a 10 minute “speed dating” type flow, where students would shift between different companies. I found we had many who returned to our table as they were impressed with the information Matt and I shared about our experience at Allnorth. We ended up staying a bit longer than other companies due to the number of students coming by and we wanted to ensure we addressed their questions, which they appreciated.

Matt and I highlighted the wide range of positions Allnorth offers to Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) graduates. For instance, although Matt and I completed the same program (Instrumentation Engineering Technology), students were fascinated by the different career paths we each took; Matt being an Automation Specialist and myself an Instrumentation Designer.

The students also appreciated the details we provided on Allnorth’s mentorship program and the company’s focus on developing new graduates into future experts in the field.

Explaining Allnorth’s triple bottom line (TBL) core principles and approach to management seemed to help students understand the value of “team” and how Allnorth’s investment in its people helps clients by bringing them additional value which ties to increased profitability.

Overall, the atmosphere was pleasant with bright students eager to take on the industry.
